Abstract:
Are the main characters in movies true heroes who rise above ordinary people? Or are they just temporary fantasies that help us escape our dull everyday lives? This lecture explores how movie characters have changed over time in response to shifting social realities. They reflect the social, cultural, and political issues of their eras. From this point of view, the lecture also considers what movie heroes mean to us today—in this age of extremes.
